A Critical Analysis Of The Promotional Video
regarding Alanis Morissette's "You Oughta Know"
I was first struck by the warm,
almost filmic,
texture of the images.
It had been color-balanced quite golden.
And her mouth looked like a smear of blood.
The cross-cutting was effective in creating visual interest -
a progression of jump cuts
as the singer ascended the sand dune.
This was contrasted with a static shot
as she rolled over in the sand
pressing her body against it,
all feline knowledge.
An artistic incorporation of lens flare
And the swathe of her hair pouring down her back.
